Feeling at home
Mazzo's living room concept was created in response to the growing demand for relaxed environments where eating and drinking can be combined with working, meeting and socializing. The formula has already proved to be successful by Witteveen in De Pijp, another neighbourhood in Amsterdam. IQ Creative owner Bert van der Leden identified the Rozengracht as the perfect location for a similar casual concept. “The Jordaan is well known for its cozy cafes and restaurants. It however lacks a modern location where anyone, young and old, can come in from early morning until late at night. With the opening of Mazzo the Jordaan is enriched with a delightful place where everyone feels right at home.”
The food at Mazzo is distinctly Italian inspired. Edwin Hathazi, head chef of Mazzo, searched all through Italy and The Netherlands for the best possible ingredients to develop Mazzo’s menu. You can enjoy a fine espresso in the morning, a luxurious ciabatta or light pasta dish for lunch or complete dinners with a great glass of wine. The dishes are basic, recognizable and affordable. The decision towards simplicity was made to highlight the high quality of Italy’s amazing ingredients such as olive oils, mozzarella, salamis and prosciuttos.
Concrete Architectural Associates is responsible for the interior design of Mazzo. The typical living room feel is evoked through the industrial look of the venue coupled with warm accent pieces such as the Chesterfield sofas and the long dining room tables. These highlight the Italian family atmosphere of togetherness. An eye-catching detail is the long open kitchen cabinet that extends from the front to the back of the restaurant. Herein you will find all the wonderful products and ingredients the kitchen uses to prepare Mazzo’s dishes. At the front you will find the bar area, which leads to the restaurant section with view of the large, open kitchen. In the rear, walking past the kitchen is a small space for private dinning, business meetings and special events. The large photographs on the wall perfectly describe what Mazzo is: the Jordaan’s new living room!mazzoamsterdam
