Battle of Borodino Museum is the center of a historical and memorial complex dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812. It is located in the heart of Moscow, on Kutuzovskiy Avenue.
The complex began to take shape at the end of the XIX century when in 1883 the officers of the Grenadier Corps set a milepost of the Smolensk road at the place where the Military Council house was burnt. This way they commemorated of the events of 1812.
The «Kutuzov izba» itself was restored by the Society of Christ the Savior Cathedral Bannerbearers in 1887.
In 1912, the centennial of the war, next to the house a Memorial chapel of Archangel Michael was built in memory of Field Marshal Golenishchev-Kutuzov.
In 1958 a bronze bust of Kutuzov by the sculptor Tomsky was put in front ot the Kutuzov Izba.
In 1962, the 150th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812, a Museum-Panorama «Borodino Battle» was opened. The centerpiece of it was the Panorama «Borodino», written by Roubaud in 1912.
In 1968 the Triumphal Arch by the artist Bove, which formerly stood at Triumph Square, was installed on Kutuzov Avenue between the Salutation mountain and the museum-panorama.
The unified historical and memorial complex was crowned with the monument to Kutuzov and the glorious sons of Russian nation by the sculptor Tomsky, installed in front of the museum in 1973.
In 2006 the «Museum of heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia» joined.
An integral part of museum work is exhibitions.
Since 1962 to the present time museum-panorama has organized over 1,000 exhibitions.
In preparation for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 a program of exhibition activities for 2006-2012 is designed and implemented.
The exhibition projects implemented in its framework can reveal the role and place of Russia in the era of the Napoleonic Wars, a deeper understanding of the origins of the grand events of 1812.
The largest exhibition projects of the Museum are realized in a specially equipped showroom.
In addition, a series of mini-exhibitions is annually held. They use the museum lobby and separate windows.
The exhibition projects of the Museum of Heroes are devoted to the disclosure of the theme of heroism in the history and contemporary life in Russia.

The plot outline of the museum story allows the protagonist — the Russian Army officer, Mr. N to become participant of military campaigns of 1807-1814 years, to take a trip to Paris — the center of a vast empire of Napoleon, to hear the stories of the survivors about customs of aristocrats during the French Revolution of 1789-1799.
